The New Rules For Free Web Traffic Generation
March 26, 2009 at 6:55 am

Traffic tips
John Bowie asked:

Generating free web traffic may be all the rage, but generating quality traffic in 2009 has changed with the new tools and tricks on the web. There are new sites, particularly social media sites, that can help you supercharge your Google listings.

But the rules are also somewhat tighter. There are also some tips that you need to do to get ahead.

Here are three tips for getting the best for your “money” - and you really don’t need to spend money to get good, high volume, quality traffic.

Tip # 1: The first thing you need is to have a good plan for how you’re going to generate traffic to your site. This is not just something that requires some ad hoc use of articles and blogs, but an integrated plan that has the overarching goal of achieving quality, targeted traffic.

The fact is you should not be just looking for high traffic - you should be looking for quality traffic. Google wants relevance. You need buyers. You need to marry relevance with your market so that your traffic is qualified traffic looking to buy from you or use your site in the way its intended.

Tip # 2: Make sure you have researched your market. You can do a lot of that online and there are great tools out there showing traffic volumes and popularity.

You should get out there and ensure that you are feeding a starving market, as they say. Once you know in your own mind what you’re looking for you’re going to be like the guy with the doughnut stand at the railway station - inundated with hungry travelers.

So don’t be the guy peddling stuff to a whole lot of people who don’t want to hear from you. Go to wear your hungry crowd is waiting. That requires some research. Then it requires some work. And finally it requires some intelligent application of tools and processes that will help you deliver quality traffic to your site.

Tip# 3: Ensure your ‘onsite optimization’ is done, using your carefully chosen keywords. All the traffic generation tactics in the world will be useless unless you use your best traffic tools - your keyword selection.

Then you need to ensure that you’re properly using your anchor text and website layout to obtain the best quality score you can from Google so that you stand a chance of putting your head above the crowd.

So you need to not only get a site that “optimized” with your keyword phrases, but you need a plan to take that to market. That means using the add-on tools like articles, blogs and autoresponders, but it also means using tactics for quality links to your site, which Google loves.

And remember the “R” Word: There are a variety of tools that are both free and paid for, but you need to know one thing above all else: work on relevance.

There are a whole bunch of things you can use to obtain good traffic volume, but you must first think about exactly who you’re looking to attract. Many newbies will focus on obtaining high traffic at the expense of obtaining targeted visitors.

To obtain targeted traffic is far more important and requires some research on your keywords and your overall business objectives.

The changing Net scene has made some tools and practices redundant and others have emerged as super-powerful weapons in the fight for quality traffic.

You need to sort the wheat from the chaff. That requires some thought. But the outcome is well worth it.

Permission Marketing With Tip Sheets

Roger C. Parker asked:

Permission Marketing with Tip Sheets

Use tip sheets to encourage clients and prospects to sign up for your e-mail Newsletter. Permission Marketing, a marketing concept popularized by Seth Godin, is based on obtaining your client’s, prospect’s, and web site visitor’s permission to communicate with them via e-mail.

Often, the hardest part of a Permission Marketing program is developing an incentive to persuade clients, prospects, and web site visitors to send you their e-mail address and permission for you to send them your e-mail newsletter. That’s where tip sheets come in! Tip sheets are short, formatted, documents that contain non-selling information your market will find useful. Clients and prospects appreciate tip sheets because they contain helpful information that helps them save time and avoid mistakes.

Advantages

Tip sheets are easy to prepare and can be distributed for free as electronic files. You don’t need many words, and you don’t need fancy graphics to communicate a credible, competent, professional image. Clients and prospects like tip sheets because they contain helpful information presented in a short, concise, easy-to-read format which saves them time.

Steps to success

1.Create your tip sheet. Choose a topic that either helps your market achieve a goal— save time or money, increase sales, win a race, etc.— or avoid making a mistake, like a bad buying decision. Ideas include: frequently made mistakes, questions to ask when buying, trends, symptoms, installation tips, usability techniques, shortcuts, and workarounds.

Support each point with one or two short, concisely edited, paragraphs. Write as you speak, in a conversational tone. Format your tip sheet using subheads set in a typeface that forms a strong contrast with adjacent body copy. Add extra space between lines, and above subheads, to enhance the professional image your tip sheet projects.

2.Promote your tip sheet. Promote your tip sheet everywhere: on your business cards, in your e-mail signature, in your ads, article bylines, and search engine advertising. Mention your tip sheet when speaking or attending networking events. Always describe how to obtain your tip sheet by visiting your web site.

Use tip sheets and print-on demand postcards to convert postal mailing addresses to e-mail addresses. Tip sheets promoted with postcards can efficiently reactivate previous clients and reach out to prospects who have not yet given you permission to contact them via e-mail. Using postcards to promote tip sheets avoids the many problems associated with unsolicited e-mail, i.e. spam.

3.Sign-up. Make it easy for web site visitors to locate your tip sheet. Your tip sheet and newsletter sign-up offer should be prominently placed at the top of your home page. Describe the benefits your newsletter offers subscribers and stress your privacy policy.

Set up your web site so autoresponders will deliver your tip sheet, add the recipient’s name to your newsletter mailing list, and inform you of the new contact.

4.Track your results. Experiment with additional tip sheet topics. Use different e-mail addresses or web site landing pages to determine which topics and media generates the best results.

5.Expand. If desired, you can use tip sheets as the basis for in-depth treatments of each topic. You can expand tip sheet topics into newsletters, special reports, e-books, presentations, speeches, teleconferences, and audio recordings.

Increase Traffic and Backlinks Through Blog Commenting
March 25, 2009 at 11:40 pm

Backlinks tips
willyboy asked:

If your concerned about the low amount of traffic you currently receive on your website, if your just looking to bump things up a bit increase visibility to your website or increase the amount of backlinks you currently have then you may want to try blog commenting.

Now before i start i want to say that whenever commenting on blogs you should always try and add something of use to the topic in hand either this or at least congratulate the author for their great work. Don’t just put a useless comment which is obvious that you wrote it just for the traffic or backlink.

Blog commenting is a form of marketing, its a way of increasing traffic as well as being a way of building links to your website therefore it could probably be classed as a form of off page SEO as well.

The idea behind blog commenting is that you comment on other peoples blog websites to increase traffic. You maybe thinking, well i have been doing that for ages but i don’t get any traffic from their websites. There are some tips and tricks behind blog commenting and these are some of my main tips.

1. Find 2-3 blogs that are related to your market.

2. Pick one username for every blog, perhaps the username used to post on your own blog, forums or social media sites.

3. Read their blogs daily not only for tips and information but so you can comment on each article they upload.

4. Add something of value to the article, perhaps ask a question or state your own opinion.

5. Try to be the first blogger to comment back, these are bound to get the most traffic.

6. Become a part of their community, speak your opinion, help others and make friends.

These are just some of my main tips for blog commenting, it is not easy to make yourself known however you can start by commenting on already popular blogs.
