Use Chrome to Quickly Compare Browser Memory Use

Use Chrome to Quickly Compare Browser Memory UseChrome: Everyone talks about the speed of Google Chrome, but how can you be sure you're really running light and nimble when Windows task manager divides up Chrome's memory usage into individual processes? Use this simple trick to compare browsers.

Tech blog How-To Geek highlights a clever use of Chrome's about:memory page. Not only does it show you how much memory Chrome is sucking down, but it also highlights all the other browsers on your system. Type about:memory in the address bar of Chrome to see not just the memory usage for various Chrome tabs but also how much memory Firefox, Internet Explorer, and other browsers are using.

In our screenshot above the test machine had three five separate Chrome windows open with a total of 38 tabs, Firefox had two separate windows with 14 total tabs open. Chrome definitely comes out on top with only about 20% more memory usage for 270% more tabs.
